The Piotr Janowski Foundation was established in 2010 in order to promote and protect the legacy of its renowned patron. It is a tribute and an expression of admiration for the extraordinary talent and personality of the artist, a great violinist whose remarkable career was sadly interrupted by his sudden death.
The Foundation, in cooperation with the City Office of Grudziądz, released the 3-CD album “Piotr Janowski. Legenda” [Piotr Janowski. The Legend] which aroused a great interest among music lovers and received a nomination for the 2014 Fryderyk Award of the Polish Phonographic Academy in the category “Album of the Year. Solo Recital”.
Many different cultural events connect the Foundation with Grudziądz, Piotr Janowski’s hometown. The most important one is the Piotr Janowski Violin Competition organized by the Stanisław Moniuszko School of Music, which the Foundation supports by providing one of the awards, i.e. lending the master violin to the winner.
Next to its wide-range activities aimed at preserving the memory of Piotr Janowski, the Foundation actively initiates and supports various valuable cultural projects. Together with the US Embassy, it was the co-organizer of the celebrations of the 150th anniversary of the birth of Ignacy Jan Paderewski. In cooperation with the Henryk Wieniawski Music Society and Polish Radio 2, the Foundation released the album “W kręgu Wieniawskiego. Edward Wolff” [In the Wieniawski’s Circle: Edward Wolff], the first archival recording of piano works of uncle Henryk and Józef Wieniawski.
The activity of the Foundation has been recognized and supported by the Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage (MKiDN) for the promotion of the two albums.
